NEW POWER OF LEARNERS
Edison E. Tayag
Teaching is not all about giving lectures, checking of school-related activities, giving quizzes or tests, and computing grades; it also covers the curriculum which is very necessary to follow, to be in the right track of teaching under the supervision of Department of Education.
A lot of curriculum were legally produced and followed by the different learning institutions with different scopes of education like BEC, SEC, and RBEC.
At present, we have the newly implemented curriculum which is K to 12 which means kindergarten to grade 12. In here, teachers play the role of facilitators due to its student-centered structure.
In comparison, K to 12 helps everyone to be intellectually inclined and skilled students. It is also a great help in boosting the independence of the students being learner – centered learning, unlike to the past curriculum, it is the teacher who made most of the things so as a result, the spotlight is not focused on the learners, But now , the learners are the focus of the newly implemented curriculum.
Skills are very important not only with the major subjects such as English, Filipino, Mathematics and Science but most especially fot the tracks under Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) due to their importance in daily basis for living. Thus, k to 12 is highly needed for better learning and as psychology says “learning by doing is the best way of teaching.
Indeed the new curriculum (K to 12) is somehow a great help in providing students quality education not only in lecture- based intelligence but also skills intertwined with the values in every student’s heart.
With the quality education served by curriculum, students and teachers assure success in the future, and that’s the essence or power of learning under K to 12.
