Research has shown that knowledge of the Alphabetic principle is an important
factor in writing ability of young students. Children must acquire basic phonemic
awareness and, in particular, the ability to detect systematic relationship between
the sound segments of spoken words and the letters in the spelling Adam, 1990).
Once the first grade At Risk students acquired this knowledge, they were more
willing to put their thought in written form since they were able to decode words.
The San Agustin came up with the school based innovation Project Leading
Enhancement advance Development (LEAD).
The benefit of the Module to be used by the learners during rainy season.
Especially the learners belongs to Indigenous People. The module was useful to the
learners during cancellation of classes because of strong typhoon. The teachers
cannot crossed the rivers with the strong typhoon. The proponent made the module
ready to print to assist the teachers especially the beginning teachers assigned
the IPED School.
The teachers will conduct the pre and post assessment to the learners during
opening of the classes and semester break. The proponent and the school head
will conduct strict monitoring and evaluation in the progress report of every learners.
The project LEAD found effective not only in the IPED School but also in the
non-iped schools. During opening classes they used the Module to test the phonemic
awareness of the learners. The module is also available to bring at home for
enrichment purposes for the beginner readers and slow readers.
