How To Be Better?
CHRISTINE HERNANDEZ-TIMOTEO
Everybody is good but we strive to be better and be the best that we can be. But can we really be the best? In school, we recognize perseverance and excellence in academics through a rating system. With honor, high honor and highest honor are titles to distinct learners from the rest. This system is a good way to motivate learners to do better and acknowledge all their painstaking in achieving high grades and honor.
Educational system in the country is supposed to make the learner realize his potentials and worth. The assessment was designed not only to evaluate performance by data or numbers but also to develop sense of fulfillment and hard work. There is no harm in encouraging our learners to be better but what about those who weren’t able to make it? Through teaching of virtues, the school inculcates in the young minds of the learners the value of introspection. Year-end recognition teaches learners to do self-reflection and assess their own performance so as to realize their strengths and weaknesses. Strengths that will boost their morale while the weaknesses will become avenues for improvement and learning opportunities.
These learning opportunities open endless possibilities for self-improvement and self-realization. These virtues and learning will be kept in the heart and minds of the learners more than the certificates and medals received from the recognition.
