UNITED WE STAND

The serious and repetitive warning from Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) regarding the possible 7.2 magnitude earthquake or the “Big One” is a vital matter to be given attention by everyone.

Anytime from now, a strong tremor may hit National Capital Region and its surrounding provinces including Pampanga where we are located as experts on earthquakes and plate movements have seen evidences that the West Valley Fault is very ripe for movement.

As teachers and as members of schools where we are teaching, this is one of what we have to give attention. Good that the government from the higher offices and other private institutions are working hand in hand to prepare teachers and students for the “Big One”. The National Disaster and Risk Reduction Offices (NDRRMO) are conducting series of shake drills , orientations on disaster preparedness and trainings on applying first-aid in all schools to make teachers and students aware on the possible worst scenarios.

But the question is, are these intensive preparations enough? Are students really serious on these drills and precautionary exercises? Are DepEd and other related government agencies equipped with necessary materials and equipments needed?

Then, this is where the cooperation of everybody comes in. If we really want to help saving the thousands of lives and billions worth of infrastructure, let us all work together. As concerned teachers, let’s all be alert, be ready and make ourselves available to help at all times.

Yes, this natural hazard is uncontrollable. But as long as we work together and we have that strong faith to God, UNITED, WE’ll all STAND against this odd.
