Hospital condemns discrimination of health workers

-

MARIVELES, Bataan-- Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital (MMWGH) condemned Tuesday discrimination of health workers in the hospital treating patients who tested positive from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

MMWGH Chief of Hospital Maria Lourdes Evangelista asks the public for support and cooperation to combat the disease.

“We can’t do this alone. We need to unite. But we will still continue our work despite the difficult situation,” Evangelista assured.

MMWGH sparked discriminatory acts from town residents after COVID-19 patients were brought in the hospital from New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

The municipal government received reports from health workers such as verbal harassments and discrimination in their places of residence and at checkpoints.

Moreover, Mariveles Mayor Jocelyn Castañeda also condemned all forms of harassment and asked for understanding from her constituents.

“I want to inform all our residents that our municipal government is condemning the harassment, discrimination, and insults to frontliners and medical staff not just from the town but also in other towns,” Castañeda stressed.

The local chief executive warned residents that such harassments are punishable under the law.

“To all our frontline workers at the MMWGH as well as in other parts of the country, we honor you all and I am calling my constituents to honor you as well,” Castañeda furthered.
