MARIVELES, Bataan -- The municipal government installed yesterday disinfectant booths in the public market and in Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital ( MMWGH) .

Mayor Jocelyn Castañeda said the booths were set up to assure residents that the municipal government is stepping up initiatives to contain the first recorded case of coronavirus disease in the town.

“The purpose of the booths is to disinfect all individuals entering and exiting the area,” Castañeda said.

She personally demonstrated to residents how to use the disinfection booths.

“When entering the booth, use your elbow [to open the transparent plastic cover] and then, smoke will come out to disinfect you. In exiting, again use your elbow instead of your hands,” Castañeda explained.

The local chief executive assured residents that they should not worry if they have inhaled disinfectants inside the booth as it is not hazardous to their health.

“The chemicals used are environmentfriendly because they are herbal, organic and edible — it can be swallowed, if ever, because it’s not poisonous,” she added.

Similar booths were also installed at checkpoints in barangays Balon-Anito and Batangas II.

“This is a very big help to assure the public that all staff and those coming out from the hospital are decontaminated and it is also an assurance to all our clients and staff that they are decontaminated before they go home,” MMWGH Chief of Hospital Maria Lourdes Evangelista said.
