Parents are the Best Teachers

“Education cannot wait.” This has been the statement of Secretary Briones regarding the situation few months back during the pandemic. With this is the announcement that classes will resume by the month of August. Many people specially parent and students alike have raised their brows because of the looming threat of covid-19. The discontent has been expressed particularly in social media as evident by sending posts regarding the statement of the good secretary. Little did they know that education is only limited within the four corners of the classroom. Numerous modalities can be employed in order to teach the students within the comforts of their own home. With this being said, the angry mobs in social media became more agitated, this time because of the lack of materials that would enable the students to engage in online classes. Becoming of this concern, the Department of Education through public schools have decided to use a combination of methods that will work on the specific needs of the least privileged learners. Such modalities or methods can be in modular, online, and broadcast system like TV and radio depending of the availability of resources within the household.

As the good secretary also mentioned, “learning must continue”, we do not know when the pandemic will end, however, educating the youth should never stop. Let us give our children meaningful things to do at home rather than spending the entire day soaking in social media. We have to teach them concepts that will make them better equipped when everything comes back to normal. This is also the perfect opportunity to show them the guidance and support that only parents can give because as a matter of fact parents are the best teachers.
