Impact of Quarantine in Today’s Youth
Charmaine S. Lacayanan
The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly changed the way we live. Schools were closed and people advised to stay home. This new way of living has abruptly disrupted the lifestyle that we used to have and enjoy. Regarding this, in order for the government to prevent the further spread of infection, community lock downs and quarantines were put into place. Curfews were also mandated by the LGU to stop the local transmission of the disease through constant movement of the people. These new rules were particularly pointed at the youth, as it is clearly stated in IATR memorandum the individuals 21 years below are not allowed to venture out of their home. Probably because this age group is more susceptible in acquiring or transferring the virus especially true for those at the lower age bracket. This whole pandemic has surely made a huge impact to the youth nowadays. Have you tried to ask your children engaging with family activities within your home on they were just focused into their gadgets the entire day? With all these questions in mid, we have to make sure that at least a portion of their time is spent in a more meaningful and relevant way. Remember that the quarantine is not entirely just a way of locking us up but an opportunity to be with our love ones. This is a chance to get to know them, a time to teach when schools and teachers are not around. Today’s generation is highly social, that is the reason why this pandemic created a dent in their personality. We just have to make them realize the importance and value of doing more significant things that can contribute to their growth and progress.
