THE SIGNIFICANT ROLE OF TEACHERS IN THE SOCIETY
Connie Soliman
Teachers influence their students in so many ways. They are the most influential individuals that one could ever think of because they are watched all the time wherever they are, whatever they do, and whatever they say. A simple gesture that a teacher does that may seem to be amusing to a child will be easily imitated. The way a teacher dresses is sometimes copied by a student and there is already a “mini me” or “twinning”. The way a teacher thinks can be adopted by the students especially if they are fed with so much information.
Teachers have the power to develop the whole being of a child. A teacher can help students improve their physical well-being by letting them know the importance of being healthy and be a model of healthy lifestyle at the same time. A teacher can help students in their emotional aspect by listening to them and providing them proper direction and good counselling. A teacher can help students socially by introducing to them social responsibility, how one can be helpful in the community. A teacher can help students in their spiritual aspect by sharing with them their faith but not necessarily converting them. Teachers can help in the financial aspect of a student by educating them with financial literacy. With all of the help that teachers can give, they should also be living examples of the good deeds that they share to their students. In other words, walk the talk.
Teachers should bear in mind that teaching is a very noble profession that help shape the character of students, produce good or better yet the best quality output in the educational organization, and support the future dreams of an individual. Though we are already in the technology age, this is just somehow one of the tools of learning. But the teachers are the ones that make the students work together and prepare them for a brighter future ahead of them.
