EXPANDED ROLES OF TEACHERS DURING PANDEMIC
Kristel A. Pangilinan
It is known to everyone that the Department of Education push through the opening of classes this August 2020 despite the national crisis, Covid-19. Teachers were already used to multi-tasking because of their works during regular school days like lesson planning, managing diverse class, attending seminars, never-ending paper works and the like. But this year is different. Everything that is happening in education aspect is undergoing trial and error. No one is so sure of what is going to happen and where this pandemic will lead us. Nevertheless, teachers’ main concern as always is the learning of our learners with or without the said crisis.
Since month of June, teachers are writing their respective modules or Self-Instructional Packets (SIPacks) to be distributed to the learners. Teachers are communicating with their previous students just to have them enrolled online. They are the scriptwriters, host, and organizers of every educational TV and radio show that our learners will going to witness. Some are videographers and directors too.
This time of the month, teachers are already sorting the printed modules or SIPacks to be distributed to each learner. In addition, they are planning their own strategy to use this coming online classes and everyone becomes an ICT coordinator.
If our front liners in the medical field are the new heroes, teachers are also the heroes of the education system especially this challenging time of crisis. They truly are undeniably the perfect example of resilient and flexible people whatever circumstance or crisis will come.
