Teaching: A Profession or Vocation?

Maureen Q. Medina

-

It is often said that teaching is a noble profession. Indeed, it is an opportunity to share knowledge with young people and touch their lives. Teachers can inspire students to bring out their best and make a difference.

To start with the point, teaching is a noble profession, it is a worth considering that teachers play an important role in imparting knowledge among the students. The teachers' capability to deal with different types of learners is the best key to transfer the necessary knowledge, attitude, skills and habit to be developed by each learner.

As an educator, teaching is both a profession and vocation. Teachers are undergone formal schooling and soon have to pass the Licensure Exam for Teachers in order to become a professional teacher. It is well-proved that teaching is a profession. Extensive seminars and trainings are given to teachers to enhance their skills in imparting the knowledge among their learners.

On the other side of the teaching, teachers see teaching as a vocation. They usually spend extra time in performing their duties and responsibilities without additional remuneration. Mostly, they exert their best efforts to make the teachinglearning process fruitful and meaningful.

Teaching is either a profession or a vocation. What makes it noble is because of the commitment and dedication of every teacher in doing their tasks. They have the best impact on the personal development of each learner and soon, their professional growth as well.
