Moncada pushes for vegetable farming amid Covid-19
MONCADA, Tarlac – The Municipal government of Moncada supports vegetable farming as one of the residents’ sustainable source of food amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In today’s Network Briefing News with Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar, Mayor Estelita Aquino emphasized the role of sustainable gardening in maintaining food security and sufficiency.
“About 11 barangays were identified to engage in vegetable farming. This is to encourage Moncadenians to grow their own food and supply vegetables to other barangays or towns,” Aquino stated.
The municipal government recently launched the Moncada Sustainable Gardening which aims to ensure a sustainable source of fresh vegetables in every bar angay.
As an agricultural area, the local chief executive mentioned that rice, corn, sweet potatoes and onions are the town’s main crops.
“We also provide free seeds and fertilizers for those who want to be vegetable growers,” Aquino stressed.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Secretary William Dar urged Moncada to strengthen its onion farmers to increase production and stop the country’s importation.
He likewise cited Department of Agriculture’s various programs for the municipality’s farmers including the completion of the PhP148 million, 14-kilometer farm-tomarket road.
On another note, Dar stressed the relevance of Plant, Plant, Plant Program in keeping the country healthy especially in times of cr i si s.
