AboitizPow­er subsidiari­es clock in 9.6M safe man-hours in H1 2021 CFERNANDO---I

n line with its commitment to promoting a culture of safety across the organizati­on and among its partners, the AboitizPow­er Coal Business Unit (BU) clocked in close to 9.6 million safe man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) as of the end of June this year.

From 2016 until June 30, 2021, facilities operating under the BU have already collective­ly reached a total of 9,587,739 safe manhours, marking a significan­t milestone not only for the unit itself but also for the whole AboitizPow­er group.

“This milestone is a testament to our commitment to safety and to responsibl­e operations. The human aspect of it all far outweighs any target, key performanc­e indicator, or deliverabl­e. At AboitizPow­er and throughout the Aboitiz Group, we treat each other like our own kin and we wouldn’t want any harm to come to our family,” AboitizPow­er Coal BU President and Chief Operating Officer

Celso Caballero III said.

Building a solid safety culture in the workplace translates to better plant availabili­ty and reliabilit­y, highlighti­ng the organizati­on’s dedication to responsibl­e operat i ons.

The AboitizPow­er Coal BU’s recent achievemen­t also resonates with the AboitizPow­er’s drive for sustainabi­lity, with occupation­al health and safety playing a huge part in its Environmen­t, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

“We recognize that organizati­ons are only truly sustainabl­e when they ensure the safety, health, and welfare of all their team members and partners,” Caballero added.

On a regular basis, there are around 400 organic team members working at the AboitizPow­er Coal BU’s facilities in Bataan, Cebu, Davao, Quezon, and its corporate headquarte­rs in Metro Manila.

Acr oss the AboitizPow­er group, business units are leveraging technology to promote behavior-based safety among their team members through a mobile applicatio­n wherein safety issues can be reported and acted upon immediatel­y. According to Caballero, this has driven positive behavior among employees and the improvemen­t of the organizati­on’s overall safety performanc­e.

“Managing a workforce scattered across various locations in the country can be a challenge, but the AboitizPow­er Coal BU has made sure all facilities play a proactive role in safety excellence,” Caballero added.

AboitizPow­er is envisioned to be world-class in its safety practices and a leader in safety, health, and environmen­t-related behavior.

“To demonstrat­e a positive safety culture, everybody is accountabl­e for all their team members as well as contractor­s and staff. Everybody goes home to their families with complete

arms and legs and in good health. We will continue to make safety our number one priority,” Caballero said.

The Coal BU comprises AboitizPow­er’s coal-fired power generation assets, which include Therma Luzon, Inc. (TLI), Therma Visayas, Inc. (TVI), and Therma South, Inc. (TSI). All three subsidiari­es are certified for ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) while TVI and TSI are certified for ISO 14001:2015 (Environmen­tal Management System), ISO 45001:2018 (Occupation­al Health & Safety Management System), and ISO 55001:2014 (Asset Management System).
