Support staff in schools
Support staff in schools provide essential back-up services, ranging from day-to-day office support to financial and school business management.
There are personnel who work with teachers in the classroom to help pupils with their learning. They may be teaching assistants or higher level teaching assistants.
We may not realize it, but schools rely on the professional input and expertise of a range of staff, and “support staff”. Some work alongside teachers and some work behind the scenes to ensure that there is an efficient infrastructure within which effective teaching and learning can take place.
School-based non-teaching staff members make an important contribution to student progress and achievement by supporting principals, students and teachers, and maintaining positive relationships with parents and the wider community.
There are many roles for non-teaching staff at school like HR, coordinator, admin manager etc. They are important in public relations as that of teaching staff. Effective working relationship with non-teaching staff is also required.
Non-teaching staff like HR or coordinator face the public, where you will have more interaction with them. They actually deserve attention as that of the teaching staff in terms of benefits, as they too have duties and responsibilities.
Non-teaching personnel also have the right to take part in all matters at school, as all the work related to the non-teaching aspects of the school will be their responsibility. Management will be more focused, especially in administration. Responsibilities will also be complex, maintaining records related to the school and children.
