15 Angeles City villages vie for clean and green contest

ANGELES CITY--At least 15 villages here are among the semi-finalists in the city's interbaran­gay clean and green cont est .

The program was dubbed as “Gawad Parangal sa mga Pinakamali­nis, Luntiang,

Ligtas at Kaayaayang Pamayanan (Pogi Ya Ing Barangay Ku)."

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., said the project aims to promote sustainabl­e programs for participat­ory governance, environmen­tal management, peace and order, and disaster risk reduction management.

The villages include Sapalibuta­d, Pulung Maragul, Pandan, Tabun, Capaya, Cuayan, Sapangbato, Pampang, Ninoy Aquino, Claro M. Recto, San Nicolas, Sto. Rosario, Sto. Cristo, Pulungbulu, and Lourdes Sur East.

Promotions OfficeS (ACEDIPO) supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel with the panel of evaluators composed of Environmen­talist and Veteran Broadcaste­r Cecil Yumul, Pampanga Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office PAMP/ SVMS Rustico Gonzales, and Department of the Interior and Local Government – Angeles City Director Darwin David held its first batch of on-site evaluation today, Sept. 20, 2022 in five barangays. The evaluation of the remaining barangays will follow suit.

“This is to build back better communitie­s which encourage implementa­tion of intensivel­y and extensivel­y proactive, participat­ive, sound, and sustained programs, projects, and activities on socio-economic, environmen­tal, and risk reduction management,” Lazatin said.

Irish Bonus-Llego of ACEDIPO, said 23 barangays have joined the contest.

From 23 joiners, 15 were concluded as semi-finalists from the set criteria of the contest which are Urban Farm and Greening Program (35 percent); Solid Waste Management and General Cleanlines­s Program (35 percent); and Disaster Risk Reduction, Peace and Order, Health and Sanitation Program (30 percent).

“From 15, we will trim it to 6, and then finally the top three,” Bonus-Llego said.

The grand winner will receive a dump truck worth P4M with P300,000 cash incentive; second placer will get P600,000; 3rd placer will receive P300,000; and consolatio­n prize for nonwinner barangays is P100,000.
