INNOVATIVE WAY TO IMPROVE IMs

Sentiments over insufficiency and even lack of textbooks, learners’ materials and teacher’s guides are but normal, or better said to be “usual” on teachers’ posts on social media. While teachers hold their horses, meagerness of instructional materials can be met through crafting customized and innovative materials taken from the local learning environment. Selfinnovative reading materials such as levelled books, comics-based selections, big books and others can supply the scarcity. A study made in Arizona University on the use of personalized instructional materials in Mathematics showed significantly better attitude and results among the participants of the study. Modifying the materials to fit the learners’ ability shall surely fill the longing for the department’s delivery of learning materials . Customizing though may take a lot of time, effort and creativity, but we need to do it for realizing the creation of more materials for our learners. As teachers, we need to acknowledge that the transfer of knowledge does not only depend on the textbooks and other learning materials which are provided by DepEd. These are but aides to facilitate learning. Most of the learning that our learners get is from their own experiences closely knitted with their lives. If the IMs of teachers will utilize are the ones very relevant and appropriate to the learners, much will be assimilated. Hence, the employment of creativity and resourcefulness in preparing IMs should be a proactive way of setting the remedy for material scarcity.
