GOOD LEADERSHIP DURING A PANDEMIC…
MICHELLE R. CASTRO
In this time of pandemic, we need leaders with motivating personalities who will lead others down the right path to success; who will inspire others to persevere rather than give up; who will invest in the necessary skills development and capacity building for teachers who will facilitate learning for a lifetime investment.
Despite the pandemic's overwhelming and exhausting impacts, this beautiful calamity has presented a unique learning opportunity.
As one of the department heads, I've learned to be more adaptable and flexible in order to achieve a common goal: to provide responsive education. It's more important than ever to become a strategic leader in these trying times. To improve, always try to anticipate and welcome constructive criticism and challenges. We must believe in developing a team based on trust, communication, confidence, and innovation to accomplish higher outcomes in the face of adversity.
What makes a department leader strategic and innovative in this new normal? Being one of the department heads in our school, I have experienced the struggles of teachers in technology-based development especially this new normal set-up.
Let me share one simple way of making my department's work lighter and easier; I always promote and model digital leadership in our department. Since the epidemic, I've embraced the difficulties of exploring technology-based professional applications.
In order to achieve digital transformation in K-12 education digital leadership abilities, I need also to display first digital leadership and actively support the establishment of a digital learning culture in our school.
True digital transformation within organizations can only happen if leaders are capable of monitoring the entire process with genuine collaboration and assistance from internal and external stakeholders in every endeavor.
