Looking back

-

I am no Nostradamus but my prophesies, he he he, not prophesies but predictions in the outcome of 2019 local elections were not off the mark? My advantage is that all politicians of consequence are known to me, particularly in Angeles City. Even some of those in Pampanga.

Many are close to me. Either had lunches , coffee or drinks with them. Shared stories with them. Laugh with them and many of us dreamt together for the betterment of our beloved country.I admire some of them.

For example, in the Angeles City mayoral race of 2016. It was an interesting three cornered fight. Each week, different pollsters were coming out with different scores, though Bryan Nepomuceno is consistently on top followed closely by Carmelo ‘Pogi’Lazatin and Alex Caugiran in the third rank. The X-factor was the support of the powerful voting bloc of the Iglesia ni Cristo. Whoever will get it, he will have the big advantage, I wrote. Pogi Lazatin got it and he won. He served with distinction in his first term so his re-election bid was a walk in the park. Now that he’s eyeing the 1st congressional district, he will again, I will predict, will breeze through. At this early, there is no one who is seemingly interested in squaring off with Pogi Lazatin in the first district. Pero palagay ko kapag malapit na, May susulpot.

When Carmelo ‘Jonjon’ Lazatin Jr. faced Yeng Guiao in the congressional race, the outcome was almost predictable. Lazatin had the upper numbers from the very beginning. It might be recalled that in the 2016 congressional race, the two already slugged it out and Lazatin trounced Guiao who was then the incumbent. Guiao even got the support of ABEKA, the local party founded by Angeles City Mayor Ed Pamintuan. The reason why Guiao lost was because he was seldom seen in public due to his tight schedules in coaching basketball teams. After that race, Jonjon Lazatin run by his lonesome for his last and final term. Now he will be running for mayor in Angeles City. Former Philippine National Police Director General Oscar Albayalde reportedly is already making the rounds and keenly watching the developments in the forthcoming barangay elections in October.

TIDBITS: Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineer Almer Miranda of the 1st Pampanga Engineering District promised to finish the Paning bridge by the end of May. (Sorry, I didn’t ask what year. Joke only)… Atty Agnes Devanadera, president of Clark Development Corporation should task her engineers to complete the road construction left unfinished by the previous administration of General Manuel Gaerlan… I suggest there should be regular traffic enforcers in the Korean town area in Barangay Anunas. Double parking along the road is beginning to be a norm again… Happy Fiesta to the people of the City of San Fernando.
