As educational systems worldwide adapt to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to reconsider the timing of the academic year. Returning to June as the opening of classes offers numerous benefits for students, teachers, and the overall education sector. Firstly, reverting to June as the opening of classes restores a sense of normalcy and routine in students' lives. The pandemic has disrupted learning patterns and routines, leading to learning loss and decreased academic engagement. By bringing back classes in June, students can return to a familiar structure, establishing regular study habits and routines. This consistency supports their academic progress and contributes to overall student well-being. Secondly, beginning classes in June allows educators and educational institutions to enhance student learning outcomes. The summer break offers an opportunity for students to recharge and engage in enriching activities, which can enhance their social development. Moreover, it allows teachers and school administrators to reflect on the previous academic year, assess student performance, and have the extra time to planning and implementing teaching methods. Lastly, the return to a June opening could also address some severe challenges faced by educators and the students. The traditional August start date often leads to sweltering classrooms during the hottest months of the year, posing health risks and making it difficult for students and teachers to focus on learning. By moving the start date to June, when temperatures are generally milder, students and educators would be able to thrive in a more comfortable and better learning environment. In conclusion, returning to June as the opening of classes brings numerous advantages to students, teachers, and the education sector as a whole. It restores routine and stability, enhances learning outcomes, and allows for better learning environtment. By embracing this traditional schedule, educational institutions can provide a nurturing and enriching environment that sets students up for success in their academic journey.
