TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION GEARING TOWARD A SINGLE CONCEPT
HONORIO M. PALO JR.
Technology plays an increasingly significant role in improving access to education. In our time, we witnessed the prodigious importance of technology to students in all level. Use of technology appeared to be in conformity with skills that they need socially, emotionally, and intellectually as they complete their needed education. More often than not, teachers and parents support the use of technology in the classroom. However, there are downsides technology brings to education. Although these are just but minimal, teachers and students alike must have to be wise and responsible in using the technology. They must see to it that its proper use must not overshadow what it is intended for. We cannot deny the fact that technology in education plays a vital role in improving the educational skills and knowledge of learners and teachers. As constructivist teachers in the 21st century, however, we need to use technology wisely and properly. Teachers can enhance their teaching skills and strategies every time they are facing their class. It also guides their parents in molding the minds of their children to become good and resourceful leaders. Teachers can benefit a lot by choosing their options in teaching and instructing their students. The use of power point presentation, internet homework assignments, online grading system, video presentations, and many others can make learning fun and meaningful and free teachers from drudgery. As time goes by, technology becomes part and parcel of instruction and in students’ life. Teachers don’t need to know everything about a particular piece of technology. They only need “just enough” to help them complete an instructional task. They do not need to be proficient or highly intellectual in using the technology, but rather need to be comfortable in using it within a curriculum activity.
