ALLYSSA ASHLEY M. CARREON

Assessment plays a key role in education and provides valuable insights into student progress and understanding However, the real power of appraisals lies not only in evaluating performance, but also in guiding it to growth and improvement. Feedback, when delivered effectively, can be a transformative tool that empowers students, fosters growth of mind, and improves learning outcomes. Feedback serves as a bridge between assessment and learning Its primary purpose is to inform students of their strengths, areas for improvement, and specific actions they can take to improve their understanding and skills. Feedback should not be seen as a mere performance evaluation, but rather as a motivation for growth and development. When provided with care and intention, feedback can help students develop metacognitive skilis, reflect on their learning processes, and take ownership of their academic journey. The following are fundamentals and techniques for providing effective feedback:

Fundamentals of effective feedback,

1. Providing feedback immediately after an assessment allows students to relate their performance to the tasks they have completed. Early feedback facilitates deeper understanding of concepts and allows students to quickly address misconceptions.

2. Feedback should be specific and focused on the assessed learning objectives or criteria. Highlighting strengths and areas for improvement with clear examples helps students understand what they did well and where they can improve their performance.

3. Feedback should be provided in a constructive and supportive manner. It should emphasize the potential for growth and encourage students to view setbacks as learning opportunities rather than failures.

4. Feedback should be clear and easy to understand. Using concise and avoiding technical language, and providing practical advice helps students understand the intended message and apply feedback effectively.

5. We understand that each student is unique, thus feedback should be personalized to their specific needs, taking into consideration prior knowledge. learning stye, and personal goals. Personalized feedback acknowedges and encourages students' individual learning experiences.

Techniques for providing effective feedback:

1. Recognize student's achievements and strengths when giving feed1back. This fosters trust and creates the basis for constructive criticism.

2. Give specific comments in accordance with the learning objectives Highlight areas where students have succeeded and places where improyement is required. Make specific suggestions for further development 3. Encourage students to reflect on their performance and analyze their errors and misconceptions.
