COMMON SERVICES OFFERED BY RAC
Refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians are trained in installation and service, capable of identifying problems, installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment. Some aspects of the job can be dangerous, because of hazardous materials. Before installing AC systems, one may have to look over the blueprints to familiarize with the layout, followed by installing components determined by the type of AC. After placing a unit, you have to connect the wiring and controls and ensure that the AC is working properly. There should be regular maintenance and repair to keep the air conditioning unit functioning properly. This also goes for refrigeration units since they use the same type of technology as air conditioning units. You may also be required to service different kinds of AC systems, including those in cars and/or trucks. You also have to be up to date with new systems, and must use proper storage of refrigerants or coolants used in air conditioning systems. There are tools you have to use including acetylene torches, carbon monoxide testers, pipe cutters, voltmeters, pressure gauges, wrenches, and hammers. In learning to be a tech, you should know how to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and other specifications; install, troubleshoot and overhaul entire heating, ventilation, air handling, refrigeration and air conditioning systems; repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration and air conditioning; and measure, cut and connect wirings. Key job skills include troubleshooting, fundamentals of refrigeration, electrical components and safety, refrigeration and air conditioning installation, and air conditioning servicing.
