CONTEXTUALIZATION AND LOCALIZATION AS A KEY TO UNDERSTANDING THE LESSON
ARNEL G. MANDAP
For all learners, classroom instruction is crucial. The teacher teaches them using the many competences that are intended to be acquired in a given class. Teachers often try to make connections between the lessons they teach and the learners' daily lives because they know that learning can also have value for students when it is applied to their daily lives. Contextualizing and localizing the lesson in a means of putting it in the context of the learner’s community it belongs. Since each student is aware of the environment they are in, learning takes place more easily when it is done in the context of the learner's community. Localizing the lesson has a greater impact on each student's day-to-day life these days. In this way, the teachings were implemented in the context of each learner's community in addition to being ingrained in their young minds. Lessons are far more meaningful to learners when they are taught in situations, they are familiar with, which allows them to pick up the material quickly without sacrificing time. In technical terms, localization is the process of linking and modifying curriculum content as well as teaching and learning procedures to the conditions, resources, and environment of the local community. On the other hand, contextualization is the process of placing a lesson into a meaningful and applicable framework drawn from prior knowledge and real-world circumstances. Both adhere to the principle of adapting the lesson to the educational needs and level of understanding of the students while keeping it innovative, adaptable, meaningful, and relevant. Contextualization and localization are also used when assigning tasks to each student. Because they are all familiar with the surroundings of their communities, learners can understand the activity with ease. Teachers in the twenty-first century need to keep coming up with new and creative ways to instruct students that are relevant, productive, and enjoyable.
