MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN TEACHING
JANET G. LLONA
The role of a teacher in the process of teaching and learning is quite challenging. It is widely recognized that teachers hold a significant position in society. I believe that a teacher who truly makes a difference serves as a valuable source of inspiration for all learners. But how can we bring about positive change in teaching? Effective teachers adeptly manage their time and create engaging and enjoyable activities within a conducive learning environment. This approach fosters a sense of comfort and belonging among learners.
Certainly, making a difference is not an easy feat for all teachers, but everyone can contribute in their own simple ways. Effective teachers go beyond imparting knowledge and skills; they also teach learners to develop a love for and find enjoyment in their pursuits. A teacher truly makes a difference when they embody characteristics such as enthusiasm, creativity, and positivity. Although these qualities can manifest in various ways, the overarching goal is for teachers to consistently strive to nurture highly motivated learners who will eventually attain academic excellence.
For a public secondary school teacher, being organized in the classroom is an ideal quality that enhances effectiveness. Organizational skills are crucial in presenting lessons in a highly effective manner. Through daily organization and goal setting in teaching, a teacher can ensure that lessons are delivered with maximum impact. With these qualities of effective teaching, students will observe, emulate, and integrate them into their daily lives, transforming them into lifelong learners of the 21st century generation.
