LINKING TECHNICAL SKILLS AND LITERACY: INCLUDING LITERACY IN TECHNICAL-VOCATIONAL LIVELIHOOD (TVL) AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION (TLE)
CATHERINE R. MANALILI
The incorporation of reading skills into Technical and Livelihood Education (TLE) and Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) programs has become an essential tactic in the everchanging field of education. Through this combination, students gain not just the necessary technical skills but also improve their literacy, making them well-rounded individuals ready for the demands of the modern workforce. The need of incorporating literacy into TLE and TVL is examined in this essay, which also emphasizes the benefits of having both technical knowledge and linguistic skills.
Proficiency in literacy is essential for proficient communication, which is the cornerstone of success in any kind of professional environment. By incorporating literacy into TLE and TVL, teachers can make sure that students are able to communicate concepts clearly, share knowledge, and work well with others.
Literacy skills are essential for students pursuing entrepreneurial pursuits in TLE and TVL. Strong literacy foundations are essential for communicating with clients, creating business planning, and effectively marketing goods and services.
The development of critical thinking abilities is another aspect of literacy, in addition to reading and writing. By encouraging students to assess data, weigh options, and make educated decisions, literacy integration in TLE and TVL supports students' general cognitive development.
Encourage collaboration between language and TLE/TVL educators to create multidisciplinary programs that skillfully combine technical subject with literacy skills. By working together, we can make sure that literacy is integrated into technical education rather than being seen as a distinct subject.
Use technology to improve reading abilities in the setting of TVL and TLE. In order to promote digital literacy in addition to traditional literacy abilities, encourage the use of digital resources, internet research, and multimedia presentations.
In TLE and TVL classrooms, develop workplace simulations that replicate real-world situations. This gives students the chance to hone their documentation, communication, and problem-solving abilities in a situation that is similar to what they would encounter in the workplace in the future.
Literacy integration is a transformative method that shapes students into skilled, wellrounded persons in Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) and Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE). Technical knowledge and literacy skills are combined in educational institutions to prepare students for a future when critical thinking, effective communication, and adaptability are essential, in addition to the needs of the workforce. Through this integration, students in TLE and TVL programs are guaranteed to graduate as proficient technicians as well as well-read and articulate members of society.
