PSYCHOSOCIAL STRENGTHENING AMONG LEARNERS TO ATTAIN HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT
ARNEL G. MANDAP
The development of psychosocial competences, or life skills, in learners is referred to as psychosocial strengthening. These abilities are crucial for the promotion and prevention of mental health. An atmosphere that is favorable for successful learning outcomes can be established in schools through positive psychosocial practices. Important factors that affect the psychosocial school climate are the effectiveness of the individual teaching strategies utilized, classroom discipline and management, the wellbeing of teachers and students, the frequency of violence in schools, and social and emotional learning. A well-integrated mental health program can enhance academic performance, raise students' mental health literacy, encourage social and emotional learning, identify students who may be at risk, and offer support, such as social welfare and health referral pathways. In order for students to acquire psychological strength, teachers are essential. One of the most important aspects of addressing students' emotional and social needs is the interpersonal behavior of educators, which fosters a sense of belonging and support for students. Building strong bonds with students, getting to know their families, and being there for them when they need extra support are all ways that teachers may promote their wellbeing. By recognizing and utilizing students' learning strengths, using techniques and exercises that augment reflective teaching methods, and fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment in the classroom, educators can also help students' psychological well-being. By cultivating psychological traits like emotional intelligence, empathy, assertiveness, and compassion, teachers can also support their own psychological well-being. These traits can impact the socioemotional classroom environment and strengthen bonds with students.
