DEMAND FOR RAC ABROAD
MARLON A. CANLAS
There are a variety of jobs within the field of air conditioning which are in demand abroad. The most well-known of these is mechanic or technician, but it is not the only job. Other opportunities might exist for estimators and balance technicians, among others. An air conditioning technician or mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing such systems. Maintenance generally occurs at the beginning of summer or at the end of the season and involves routine inspections or preventative maintenance. Technicians remove and recycle refrigerants used in air conditioning systems. A technician is called when a breakdown happens. This may require a visit to the client's location or having the unit brought into the shop. Manufacturers of air conditioning units need sales agents to move their products. A representative generally needs accounting, sales and business experience. An estimator visits a client's home or business to appraise and survey the client's needs in order to offer a quote regarding the cost of installing an air conditioning system. They occasionally must be able to make effective sales presentations in order to close deals with clients. An instructor teaches the basics of air conditioning installation, repair and maintenance in a high school, vocational or technical school or community college. Depending on where the individual works, a teaching certification may or may not be required. A sheet metal worker fabricates and installs the ductwork and dampers. They must know how to cut sheet metal and read blueprints. An air balance technician tests, adjusts and balances air conditioning systems to ensure they are operating at optimum levels. Certification is available through the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB). A designer may interpret technical specifications, drawings and plans so as to produce blueprints of an air conditioning system for a client. They may investigate the different components for price, quality and efficiency. Alternatively, a designer may calculate the capacity of available equipment and make suggestions regarding suitable equipment for a client's home or business.
