TEACHER INNOVATES!

- MELANIE R. TANAEL

Teachers learned varied approaches in teaching and learning to cater all types of learners. On my case, to be part in realizing the mission of the Department of Education in developing Filipino learners holistically, I contributed in the crafting of learners’ material to be utilized as supplementary material in teaching and learning process.

As a teacher in Filipino, I have been observed that there are limited resources in this learning area. This motivates me to initiate crafting my own contextualized self – learning modules for our learners. Self – learning modules are also learning tool in providing learner – centered activities to learners. Since we are implementing blended learning modalities, it is very beneficial to have this learning resource to support the learning process of every learner.

Constructing self – learning modules in Filipino is not that easy. Hard work, dedication and commitment are necessary ingredients to complete this endeavor. Professional readings and researches are also key points in achieving the writing goals of the teacher. It is my determination to help my learners achieve quality education despite of limited resources. It is therefore an effective way to provide them supplementary materials in order to become organized and systematic in acquiring new knowledge and skills in Filipino.

Every goal requires determination and confidence. In writing the SLM in Filipino, I ensured that I am goal – oriented. I have the determination and confidence in believing my own skills that I can make a contextualized self – learning modules. The goal of developing my learners holistically also motivates me to finish my writing journey. This is an innovation where I can upskill my own capabilities in exploring the competencies in the subject.

To all my colleagues and other teachers who are encountering difficulties and challenges because of limited learning resources, you can make your own innovative way in finding solutions to solve this concern. Start with your initiative. Believe on yourself! Discover your talents and skills. Remember, success begins on your determination. Express yourself for your learners. You are a teacher. You are a writer! Write now and be an inspiration to everyone.
