SECOND HOME: UNDERSTANDING THE DYNAMICS OF STUDENT BEHAVIOR IN THEIR HOME AND CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENTS

- EDITHA B. NALUZ

Students often considers school, classroom specifically, as their second home, not only because they are required to go to school almost everyday but because they have others who they can treat as family. Friends being their siblings and teachers as parents with every individual contributing to the student’s growth and development.

The student’s behavior is reflected vice-versa between their home and classroom. For example, they have a good mood in classroom because they had a good breakfast with their family. This also true with a school to home scenario, where the student comes home from school and does their chores as they learned in a subject the importance of helping their parents in their house.

There are aspects in play that greatly affects the student’s development, listed below are some of these aspects:

Emotional Connectivity:

We can say this to the example given where the positive mood from eating a good breakfast sets the tone for the student’s entire day at school. The emotional interplay where the student is not just about learning academically but also to develop their emotional intelligence.

Sense of Community:

The sense of community for a student is important for both home and classroom, Students create connections with their peers, this shared experience fosters a feeling of community where people value one another's accomplishments and celebrate unique diversity. Teachers are essential in creating an inclusive environment where every student feels appreciated and contributing to this “sense of community”.

Building Support Systems:

Friendships in the classroom are similar to having siblings. These friends grow to be more than just study partners; they provide companionship and emotional support. These friendships build a solid support system, whether it's through laughing or overcoming obstacles together, and they help students feel as though they are in a second home—the classroom.

As students grow and mature, the experience of having “second families” will leave a mark on their lives as they have greatly impacted on their development in life as a student and as a human being. And as for those who are no longer students, it is sure that they can say the same thing, even through their bad times, there are still good memories to come from it.
