BE MOTIVATED
AMELIA F. CABRAL
Motivation is defined as the process that initiates guidance and maintains purposeful behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge. It involves biological, emotional, social, and cognitive. Motivation also refers to factors that activate, direct, and sustain oriented behaviors. Motivation usually guides the person to work with a common goal. It plays a significant role for every individual because there is a positive impact if the workers are motivated to do their job. Anyone who has ever had a goal (like wanting to lose ten pounds or wanting to run a marathon) probably immediately realizes that simply having the desire to accomplish something is not enough. Achieving such a goal requires the ability to persist through obstacles and endurance to keep going despite difficulties. For me, if a person is not properly motivated to do his work, there is no achievement at all. There are three major components of motivation: activation, persistence, and intensity. Activation involves the decision to initiate behaviors e.g., enrolling in a psychology class. The second is persistence where there is continuous effort toward a goal even though obstacles exist. E.g., taking a master’s degree to earn a degree although it requires a significant investment of time, energy, and resources. Finally, intensity where in it can be seen in a concentrated vigor that goes into pursuing goal. For example, one student might coast by without too much effort while another student will study regularly, participate in the discussion, and take advantage of research opportunities outside of clan. In the field of teaching, motivation is a key factor among learners because. All lessons will become more appreciative, understandable, and there will be an increase in the participation rate among students. If pupils are initiative-taking, lessons will be delivered easily. This will also help to arouse pupils’ interest. Educators should also be motivated to work. The relationship with his/her co-workers makes a teacher more motivated. If the teacher is well motivated, there will be a good result in teaching. All workers are not motivated in the same way and do not all move up the hierarchy at the same pace. Therefore, they should offer a diverse set of incentives. There are also workers who are motivated easily by PAY. They are encouraged to work hard, especially during payday. One of the Psychologist (Elton Mayo) believe that workers are not just concerned with money but could be better motivated by having their social needs while at work. He concluded that workers are best motivated by better communication between manager and the workers. Second, greater managers involvement in employees working lives and lastly, working in team.
