FUTURE NATION BUILDERS
ANA MARIE P. SAGUM
The Department of Education (DepEd) has affirmed its commitment to poverty reduction efforts of the government, emphasizing that the Department’s programs and initiatives under the MATATAG Agenda are aligned with the Bagong Pilipinas of the PBBM administration. Bagong Pilipinas is a multi-layered campaign of the country’s bid to push progress. Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte earlier urged all stakeholders to raise children to carry resilience within their hearts and minds for their future. Meanwhile, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government will prioritize the welfare of the Filipino youth under Bagong Pilipinas, recognizing the role of young people as the country’s future nation builders. He said the reforms that the government envisions for the educational system should be showcased in classrooms. Under the national reform campaign, the President said learners will be provided with books, well-trained, highly-motivated, well paid teachers, and carefully curated teaching curriculum online. To address hunger among young learners, Marcos pledged to provide meals through feeding programs to ensure children absorb the lessons being taught by their teachers. He said that through Bagong Pilipinas, the youth will be molded to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and brave visionaries for their country. In improving the quality of education, DepEd is set to roll out the phased implementation of the MATATAG K-10 Curriculum next school year. DepEd has also partnered with various organizations to provide entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for learners and communities. It will also be expanding the School-Based Feeding Program to cover the entire school year starting School Year 2024-2025.
