THE MARK OF A TRUE LEADER
JAVIER G. GALANG,EdD
“A Leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”, JOHN C. MAXWELL once said. and this strikes me more than it should. Many people believe that becoming a leader is simple, yet they do not know that it entails more than that. Actually it exceeds our expectations in many ways. Knowing the appropriate road to take is always anticipated in leading our members in a direction where they can advance professionally as well as personally. On occasion, this may even involve demonstrating how to carry our tasks. It is essential to know when something should be done, but how can you determine that? How can we determine the proper moment? That tendency is engrained in a true leader. They are not afraid to take chances or make choices. They are skilled in making decisions with convictions while balancing everything in mind. They have the courage to defend their people and have the empathy to pay attention to the concerns of their constituents. Motivation is another essential characteristic that might be challenging to come by at times. We frequently ponder how others obtain theirs, particularly when we lack the motivation to complete our job at hand. Then we discover one thing that could encourage us to work, especially when our leaders or supervisors know on how to inspire us by sharing positive feedback with their employees. In fact, it’s one of the key job satisfaction. Another aspect of leadership is inspiring your followers. Inspirational leaders are good at lifting others up. You must also acknowledge your team’s contribution by celebrating their wins. Just like in a classroom full of learners, as teacher you must create a positive environment, share success stories and foster relationships. Therefore, as a school administrator, work out to improve as a Leaders. Keep in mind that our teachers are depending on us to inspire and value them. Remember that the biggest source of inspiration are the people around you. A true leader must form a bond of mutual trust and respect with your subordinates. Lastly, a true leader leads by example, fostering a strong relationship with the team in achieving organizational goals.
