EMBRACING THE POWER OF DROP EVERYTHING AND READ (DEAR) TIME ROSEMARIE G. MANALASTAS

In the fast-paced world we live in, finding time to immerse ourselves in the Catch-up joy of reading can be a challenge. However, there’s a timeless concept that encourages individual­s of all ages to prioritize reading – “Drop Everything and Read” (DEAR). This simple yet powerful practice has the potential to transform our lives by fostering a love for literature, enhancing knowledge, and promoting overall well-being. As part of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP), the National Reading Program (NRP) has been implemente­d as an integral component of this program. The Department of Education, through the Curriculum and Teaching (CT) Strand, shall implemente­d Catch-Up Fridays. The Drop Everything and Reading (DEAR) Day will be conducted by all public elementary and secondary schools on January 12th, 2024 to begin the training program for Catch-Up Fridays to conducted in all public schools. DEAR time is not limited to classrooms; it can be incorporat­ed into various settings, including workplaces, homes, and community spaces. The fundamenta­l idea to set aside dedicated time for everyone to drop whatever they’re doing and engage in reading. It is an effective way to establish a reading routine. It is possible for individual­s to develop a habit that becomes an integral part of their daily lives by consistent­ly dedicating a certain amount of time to reading every day by committing to doing so every single day. Immersing oneself in a good book has proven benefits for mental health. DEAR time offers a moment of relief from the demands of daily life, allowing individual­s to relax, unwind, and escape into the world of literature. Drop Everything and Read time is a simple yet transforma­tive practice that has the potential to enrich lives. By embracing the habit of regular reading, individual­s can reap numerous benefits, from enhance knowledge and improved language skills to stress reduction and increased focus. Whether at school, work, or home, incorporat­ing DEAR time into our daily lives can foster a lifelong love for reading and contribute to personal growth and well-being. So, why not take a moment to drop everything and immerse yourself in the captivatin­g world of literature?
