LEARNING ACTION CELL (LAC): A REVIEW
BABYLIN D. MANUEL, EDD
Learning Action Cell (LAC) is a term popularized by the Department of Education that mandates schools to conduct meaningful discussions as needed. The purpose of LAC is to solve challenges encountered in schools. Prior to the conduct of these LAC sessions, it is recommended that teachers undergo an evaluation called, E-SAT or the Electronic Self-Assessment Tool which helps teachers reflect on the different objectives related to their teaching methodologies, identify their strengths and weaknesses and such. Using their individual results, supervisors can then start to develop a LAC Plan. This may include learning pedagogy and content, teaching assessment and reporting, learner diversities and student inclusion, 21st century skills, current issues and events in Education and ICT integration. Moreover, INSET activities should also be carried out during these LAC sessions to support ongoing professional development among teachers and members of the faculty. Usually, it is advised to have LAC sessions conducted once every month but nowadays, they are done during semestral breaks and term breaks to limit the disruption of classes. The effectiveness of LAC to teachers is mostly seen and measured by their Classroom Observation Tool ratings and generally through their year-end evaluation which is referred to as the Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF). To this day, schools are still prioritizing LAC sessions as part of their Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) to highlight the importance of capacitating teachers in variety of ways.
