HAPPY SCHOOL MOVEMENT

- MICHELLE G. LANSANGAN

Learning is fun and have fun in learning are some of the quotes usually found in the corners of the classrooms that tells students that learning is not just about learning how to read and write, it’s about having fun while learning. The Happy School Movement is about making school a place where children feel challenged but competent, where they work hard but enjoy it, where achievement is the product but not the sole objective. Making school an enjoyable place to inhabit and learning a fun thing to do should be a goal to which all of us teachers could be dedicated.

A parent once told me "I don't care how much my son learns as long as he is having a good time doing so". What he meant to say of course, was that if the child learns to love the learning process, then how much ground is covered in whatever text, is not i mpor t ant .

There are many ways through which a teacher makes the learning process more exciting and interesting. Hands-on creative activities help empower a child who may be struggling with the demands of the subject. Classrooms are also agents in making learning enjoyable to learners like the bulletin board, they are silent teachers. Kids are more of visual learners where they best learn when they see and touch it (if possible). Of course, what would you expect to a student who’s seated in a clean and nice classroom? Isn’t he will enjoy learning?

As a teacher, I must be enthusiastic, empathetic and dedicated to my work because that will reflect on the way I project every day, and that’s what my students will see each day. What they become because what they observe. It must start from within among teachers. If I am happy, then I can influence my students to be happy as well.
