MARY AGATHA CLARE C. LUGUE

Wise individuals bring out an intelligent society – a society that has the ability to evaluate, reflect, and discern. The society’s competence in making reasonable and cautious decisions influences the better landscaping of the nation. Hence, it is of high importance that individuals be educated.

To be educated is not alone to be knowledgeable but more so to be able to progress through and beyond the knowledge gained – to be able to make good and meaningful use of such knowledge. Through the everyday learning experiences in schools, the youth are given the opportunity to sharpen their ability to think and comprehend. The manner by which an individual is fostered into thinking is resonated on how he responds to the call for action.

In this regard, the role of the education sector is emphasized to be vital in the development of a critical mind. Apart from the teaching of facts, the leaners are also needed to be taught how to weigh and reflect on every information. It is important to know and understand all angles, hence the understanding of cause and effect.

Good education shapes active thinkers and doers, and not passive individuals. With education working on the development of critical minds, the youth of today may turn into individuals who can make a reasonable stand – wise citizens who are not easily swayed and influenced. An education that fosters wise individuals cradles an intelligent society.
