CHATGPT IN EDUCATION: A DIGITAL FRIEND OR FOE?

ChatGPT has become a well-known AI tool in the Philippine education due to its usefulness academically. ChatGPT, short for -Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer (https://chat.openai.com/chat), is an artificial intelligence Chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022. ChatGPT is becoming significant in the field of education because of its ability to respond to questions, create different written pieces like journals, emails and even compose essays.

We cannot deny that this chatbot system plays a vital role in education nowadays and really helps the students. According to Aithal and Aithal (2023), this technology can aggregate traditional methods on academic support through giving personalized learning experience that will be convenient to the learners. It will be easier for the students to get information about what they need.

Despite having benefits, ChatGPT also has limitations. It can’t provide answers to everything you need. It will be a great threat especially to the learners because they will no longer think and only rely on answers from this tool. ChatGPT lacks Emotional Intelligence (EI). They cannot feel human emotions and the context that they are formulating cannot comprehend appropriately.

Using ChatGPT in education will precisely bring some transformation. But we should not rely on the ability of this tool. We need to assess, think, and create ideas on our own. Even though we are advancing in technology and different support systems from AI, at the end of the day, nothing can ever beat human intelligence.
