CAROL C. BALUYUT

In the Philippines, usually the academic calendar starts in June before the pandemic struck and ends-up in March. But due to pandemic period the former education secretary wants to have a gradual face to face classes that is why classes started in September until it became August at present. There are a lot of people who try to compare the usual start of classes in June into August, some they like it, but some don’t! Do you consider this as a crucial issue? So, Let’s find out the reasons behind by looking the advantages and disadvantages of it.

Let us now compare! One of the advantages that we can see if the academic year should start in June is we can avoid the effects of the rainy season and learners can attend regular classes moreover learners can engage themselves to different summer activities just like swimming and other sports activities.

While if the opening of classes should start in August, one of the major disadvantages is that learners will experience uncomfortable situation during the summer season because this is the hottest month of the year and most of the classrooms are not well ventilated. Do you think learners can focus to what they are studying? Some parents decide to excuse their children not to experience these kinds of problems.

The welfare of learners should be prioritized where they are in the safe and comfortable learning environment. Let us always consider the benefits of the learners above all so they will learn a lot from school.
