REGION III WINS 2023 NATIONAL POPDEV CHAMPIONSHIP

Cagayan de Oro, Northern Mindanao - Region III – Central Luzon brought home victory after being declared as champion of this year’s PopDev Pop Quiz in the National Festival of Talents (NFOT) held at Cagayan de Oro last July 17-21, 2023.

The Population Quiz is an annual event jointly conducted by the Commission on Population and Department of Education as one of the major strategies under the Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program which aims to reach out to in-school youth by raising their awareness on population issues that create a major impact to the lives of young people.

As a result, the event gave talented learners from around the country a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of population development and reproductive health.

Contestants responded to eight identification-related questions in the easy round, with one point each for every correct answer. An exceptional contestant from our region proved to be a formidable opponent by winning this round with a perfect score.

Participants were given seven questions in the average round, covering identification and true or false statements. A correct answer was given two points. With an outstanding 12 points, Regions 1 and 2 emerged as front runners in this round.

The difficult round challenged participants with multiple choice questions and computations. After adding up all of the scores from all rounds, Region 3 came out on top and secured first place, Region VII bagged second place, while Region 2 and 1, along Region 4A won 4th place, respectively. The winners were received cash prizes sponsored by the Commission on Population and Development.

Bettina Andrienne M. Arciaga, a Grade 10 learner from Tarlac National High School, Schools Division of Tarlac Province, etched her name in the roster of the competition's history. Remarkably, she became the fourth wizard from Tarlac, bringing back honor to Region III in the illustrious National PopQuiz.
