EMPLOYER'S PERSPECTIVE ON HIRING FRESH GRADUATES OF ONLINE PANDEMIC CLASSES
NYSSA D. RAMOS, EDD
The COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on graduates all over the world, making the job market for the class of 2020 even more competitive and difficult. This intense and challenging experience impacts companies, which spend time and money recruiting and training young people to join their ranks and immediately contribute to the organization. Since a lot of people were displaced during the pandemic and a series of quarantine periods took place which left people immobilized, students on the other hand had to postpone or lessen the hours of on-the-job training as well as activities that should have been effective if were done in a physical classroom setting. As for employers, students who graduated virtually are not trained enough to work in an actual workplace. As of now, college graduates still have a hard time finding a job accepting a college graduate from virtual class since they lack professional experiences and internships. Though universities adjusted their graduation timelines to prioritize face-to-face internships, many are still frustrated because of a drastic transition in the real “work” environment that is not expected due to having less interaction with other people during the pandemic. Now that years have gone since the world was shaken by COVID-19, many are hopeful that companies will return to normal and give equal opportunities to the equally brilliant, and competent batch of 2022.
