TEACHER’S EDUCATION: A LIFELONG LEARNING PROCESS

- RYAN CHOY P. BALUYUT

Education is a life-long process that would be incomplete without the assistance of a teacher. Teacher preparation has been a topic of discussion at all levels, including the government, ministries, regulatory agencies, schools, and teachers themselves. No nation develops beyond the quality of its education system, which is largely dependent on the quality of its education system. Some issues plague the teacher education system, therefore teacher should be provided the most appropriate tools during and after their training, including content knowledge and abilities, as well as teaching approach, to be able to conduct their task properly.

Teacher education means, -all the formal and non-formal activities and experiences that help to qualify a person to assume responsibilities of a member of the educational profession or to discharge his responsibilities more effectively. One problem that exist in my workplace is the lack of proper and appropriate to teacher education. The burden comes in when teachers are given abrupt tasks to do especially mandates from upper offices such as the DepEd Central Office or the from the Division Office. This is an instance in which teachers usually caught unprepared and sometimes clueless. Such times because they are not that knowledgeable yet.

In such problem, these are some of the possible solutions that can be suggested to lessen or improve teacher’s education:

1. Collaborative effort is a must. A good working relationship among teachers lead to lending support to one another. Working collaboratively in the workplace enables individuals to cooperate in order to accomplish a shared objective that is advantageous to both the organization and the workers. Working together is a crucial component of collaboration and is what makes an effective workplace run smoothly.

2. The practicing schools have to be taken into confidence. For this the members of the staff of teacher’s colleges should be closely associated with the schools. The course of studies and the practical work and practice teaching can be easily moderated in such a way that they will have useful implications for improving school practices.

3. Evaluation of teacher education, like technical education and higher education must be the responsibility of the central government.

Nevertheless, teachers are expected to become flexible and adapt to the challenges brought by the goals to provide quality education to students.
