)or reasons as unique to them as any other aspect of their identity, every teacher dedicates their life to teachinJ. ,t s usually not the money, thouJh, not the three months of summer vacation. %eyond that, and althouJh the motivation­s for becominJ teachers vary Jreatly, nearly all of them stem from the desire to maNe a difference in the lives of others. There is a demand for Jreat teachers in this country, and a person is called to become a teacher in response to that need. 6o, Zhat¶s callinJ you" :hy do you Zant to teach" Teachers hold their students¶ hands for a short Zhile, but their hearts forever. There is a real and immediate need for e[cellent teachers. 2ur country has made siJnifican­t proJress in education reform, but there is still more ZorN to be done. There are still schools in desperate need due to fundinJ constraint­s and loZ teacher retention, and children continue to drop out at friJhtenin­J rates. 2ne incentive to become a teacher is to maNe an impact on the educationa­l system. ,f you realize the need to enhance the quality of education in this country, you could consider becominJ a teacher to effect chanJe. There is a lot of ZorN to be done, but it is the collective effort of thousands of dedicated teachers that Zill maNe the most difference. 6chool administra tors and Jovernment officials have an impact at the leJislativ­e level, but it is teachers Zho have a direct effect on students in the classroom²that is, after all, Zhere learninJ taNes place.
