Reading is a procedure that is done to obtain messages or information, which makes it extremely significant. Along with obtaining information, we can comprehend what we read and turn it into knowledge that will help the readers in the future. In addition, reading has the power to elevate mood, lower stress levels, broaden vocabulary, and deepen thought. The process of reading is both mental and physical. When we read, we digest the information by thinking while we visually notice the writing. Reading is a receiving-based activity. In order to have a complete and accurate knowledge. We have to actively work to transform the reading material into that in order to get it. Reading comprehension is not the only prerequisite. While reading, reading materials must also be processed critically and creatively. Reading is a mental exercise that incorporates the previously described critical and creative thinking processes in addition to memory retention. Decoding symbols to get meaning is the cognitive process that reading entails. Reading is a deliberate process that involves creating word meanings. Reading with intention concentrates the reader's attention and helps them steer information toward a goal. Reading plays a significant role in the academic performance of the pupils. It has provided different benefits in order to achieve one’s academic goals. Reading can teach learners new things that they didn't know before and that will probably come in handy in the future. Pupils’ ability to handle different situations at present and in the future will improve with increased knowledge. The more they read, the more pupils will learn about topics we are oblivious of and the more words they will be able to utilize in everyday situations. Naturally, this can help them voice our thoughts in plain terms and boost our confidence when conversing with others. The advantages of reading include teaching the brain to think more critically and understand the issues that are given in what learners read. Like in books, having access to the plot or a means of contributing to its conclusion is a good test of cognitive learning. Just like every other organ in the body, the brain needs exercise to be strong and healthy. The brain can remain engaged by reading in order for it to work correctly. Learners’ brains can be train to be more focus and pay attention thru reading. Reading can contribute to improving the quality of brains in the process of remembering various kinds of things that learners have read. Pupils who are active reads are better at general knowledge, verbal fluency, and reading comprehension than those who are not. They improve as readers, and receive better scores on achievement exams across all subject areas. All types of learners must practice active reading as it helps them with language and literature, memory, critical thinking, concentration, and problem-solving abilities. Leading to an improved academic performance.
