Perspective! PARENT - TEACHER COLLABORATION

JOSE JOEL S. PALLASIGUI

It is a common problem when the parents don’t exert time to visit the school especially when monitoring their children’s academic performance. Some parents find hard to attend school activities. Mostly, the working parents are those who cannot participate in the school gatherings and programs. This issue really affects the organization mandates, mission, values, and services.

A school may dream to have an organization that is collaboratively engaging and passionately performed duties and responsibilities to fulfill learners’ needs in terms of achieving lifelong learning skills development. This vision has an impact for both learners and the community. It is significant for it will definitely produce a globally competitive learners of the 21st century.

As teacher it is my initiative to conduct an action to address the gap regarding less involvement of parents in their children’s academic performance and participation in the school activities. I believe that every problem has a solution. Parents’ Fun day during the parent and teachers’ conference is an activity where parents and their children are exposed to varied exciting games. A simple program will be given to the parents for them to enjoy and will be motivated to come again in the school activities. Through this, all parents will increase their learning support to their children.

It is the organization’s mandate to establish and maintain a network of volunteers to offer community support to learners, families, organizations, and communities. School is considered as part of the society where individuals can attain their formal learning. With this, teachers are encouraged to engage parents and other stakeholders to share their time in participating in the school activities which can develop students’ academic performance and other extra-curricular activities. It is expected that volunteer work will be done by the parents to help the school in achieving their mission and vision.
