THE POWER OF UNLEARNING AND RELEARNING
MYRA LUZ C. DE LUNA
In a world marked by rapid innovation and change, the capacity to unlearn and relearn has grown in importance. If we want to be relevant, we must forget about outdated knowledge and beliefs and start new ones.
When learning a language, one of the necessary steps we need to undertake is unlearning and relearning what had been taught to us. Since English is a complicated and dynamic language, we must always be learning new ideas and concepts and improving our understanding of its grammar. We cant be lazy because if we don’t learn new concepts and ideas, we will be left behind.
In the context of learning English, unlearning is letting go of knowledge that we may have acquired that is out-of-date or inaccurate. This might be difficult since we frequently cling to the comfort of the knowledge we have gained from prior experiences. However, unlearning is an essential first step toward moving forward and honing our English language proficiency.
It's critical to approach English with an open mind and a readiness to confront preconceived beliefs to start the unlearning process. This could entail challenging accepted grammatical conventions, dispelling linguistic fallacies, and shunning restrictive linguistic frameworks. Additionally, it is critical that we actively seek out and expose ourselves to a variety of English language input sources, including media, literature, and regional variations of the language that are spoken all over the world. This will assist us in expanding our comprehension of the language and eliminating any prejudices or restrictions that might have been embedded in our earlier education.
Relearning can start once we have eliminated old or inaccurate knowledge. In the context of learning English, relearning entails expanding our knowledge base and honing our language comprehension. This can be accomplished by actively using the language through activities like reading a range of books, conversing with native speakers, and practicing writing in various contexts and styles. Furthermore, getting input from instructors, language exchange partners, or study groups can help us pinpoint problem areas and quicken the process of relearning.
Concentrating on cultivating a growth mindset in language learning is one successful relearning tactic. We have to accept challenges, persevere in the face of failure and realize that our skills can be improved with time and effort. We have to be optimistic and determined to improve our English language proficiency. We can relearn things by embracing growth mindset. Don’t be afraid of change and challenges. They are the only constatnt thing that will keep on reminding us that we are still living.
To sum up, learning the English language requires us to continually unlearn and relearn the lessons we have been taught. We can unlearn out-of-date knowledge and relearn new concepts and abilities by approaching the language with an open mind, looking for a variety of sources of information, and adopting a growth mindset. In the process, we will ultimately improve our English language proficiency. Thus, let's approach learning English as a process of unlearning and relearning and be open to the fascinating opportunities that come with becoming fluent in this universal language.
