STRENGTHEN­ING MACRO SKILLS IN ENGLISH INSTRUCTIO­NS

English is the most widely used language today in the Philippine­s. It is fundamenta­l in the lives of people as they communicat­e every day. It helps them to connect with people easily and in the world. In learning the English language, macro skills are most referred to listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing. This is a strategy in communicat­ion that requires the listener to understand, interpret, and evaluate what he or she hears. The utilizatio­n of these techniques is particular­ly important in the teaching-learning process. It is like a step-by-step process which develops children to learn specific knowledge and skills applying macro skills. These skills offer opportunit­ies to learners which allows them to become better human beings. It is vital to reinforce the five macro skills to help the learners engage in daily class interactio­n. When learners learn a language, it helps them to achieve higher learning success in any classroom instructio­ns. It is important to develop these skills among learners to become competent in all aspects of their life. Mastering these skills will enable learners to achieve impressive results in all assessment­s they do. In lessons, these five skills integrate to improve the understand­ing of different subject areas. Macro skills focus on sharpening the skills of every learner that will help them benefit in classroom lessons. It increases learner’s knowledge and skills to be more confident in any situations they went through. English subject correspond­s to the five macro skills to assess learners’ indepth knowledge and skills in different learning areas. Most lessons incorporat­e the five skills that will permit them to enhance their abilities in a particular concept. It is a communicat­ion method essential in learning a language. To become an effective teacher, they need to develop accurate assessment tools to assess the learners better in learning the language. A good teacher requires excellent behavior to impart the necessary assistance to children. When language skills increase, everyone benefits and contribute­s to student’s success. Macro skills are the key in communicat­ion so we can communicat­e and understand with each other. One should have knowledge and skills to have effective and proper communicat­ion in dealing with other people. Hence, the five skills need to improve to achieve the goals of the Department of Education to create a holistic individual in 21st century education.
