Education serves as vehicle in transporting our children to brighter and better tomorrow. Most believe that one should invest in education as it is the best weapon to change the world.

Having said that, our government through Department of Education is searching ways and means to improve the educational system in the Philippines. With the sole purpose of having better quality education and after series of careful and scientific studies, analyses and consultations from experts and people in the field. Dep Ed came up and launched the MATATAG curriculum a recalibrated

K to 10 curriculum under the K to 12 program.

The MATATAG Agenda is an acronym that covers the education in our country holistically. It embodies concrete plans and action to address the learning gap, learning loss and learning poverty caused by the unforeseen COVID19 pandemic. Let’s begin with MA. MAke the curriculum relevant to produce job-ready, active, and responsible citizens. Next up is TA, TAke steps to accelerate the delivery of basic education services and provision facilities. Then, its another TA, TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusiveness learning, and positive learning environment. Lastly is G, Give support for teachers to teach better.

Dep Ed has definite objectives of coming out of the MATATAG Curriculum. It is aiming to decongest the overcrowded curriculum that resulted in compromised fundamental skills among learners. Dep Ed is also targeting to make learning competencies age-appropriate and properly sequenced in terms of progression. Also, to strengthen foundational skills like literacy and numeracy, and intensify values formation among learners.

MATATAG Curriculum is set to implement gradually starting school year 2024-2025. The success of it lies not only in the beauty of its planning, its guidelines and its policies. The victory of this lies in every hand of the internal and external stakeholders who are expected to support one another to make a difference.
