THE ROLE OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN LEARNER’S EDUCATION
The saying "It takes a village to raise a child" refers to the idea that for children to experience and develop in a safe and healthy environment, a community as a whole must provide for and treat them well. Providing a good education is also part of developing a safe and healthy environment. In doing so, parents play a significant role in ensuring that they take part in ensuring their children gain quality education. As parents, they are part of the “community” that raise a child.
A vital element to any teacher-student-school academic endeavor has always been parental involvement. The level or extent of parental involvement in their child's education and schooling, more often than not, needs to be recognized. Parents, who are regarded as stakeholders in the school community, play significant roles in the educational and environmental transformation of the child. Parental involvement occurs when parents take part in school-related activities both at home and at school. These activities don't only fall into the conventional categories, like teacher-parent partnerships, home tutoring, and participation at school functions, meetings, handling of discipline, and involvement in school committees.
Many parents whose children are currently enrolled in a particular school show a great deal of respect. As a result, they frequently actively participate in their child's classroom, communicate with teachers on a regular basis, help their child with homework, participate in school projects, and talk with teachers about their child's unique academic strengths and weaknesses. Ensuring collaboration as an ally between educators and parents is the best advice for academic success. However, there may occasionally seem to be a chalk line drawn down the middle of your child's life. A teacher may know just the tip of the iceberg about a child's true nature, but a parent knows their child best at home—their academic potential, social skills, and natural attitude, to name a few. A child's potential may show in her academic performance as well as in her social growth with classmates. When a student's home and school environments are merged, they may provide a deeper understanding of them, allowing teachers to better gauge a student's performance.
Schools are making an effort to provide parent-friendly and respectful environments. In the present decade, the involvement of parents has seen an expansion of education at all levels. Policies pertaining to comprehensive parental engagement are changing. This means that schools acknowledge the support given by parents to their children and how it creates a positive impact on their education. Schools establish mutual responsibility for children's success in the educational system and form partnerships with parents to adhere to the system of integrated support for their children's education. In this approach, parents' efforts to support schools are encouraged and parental involvement is increased. Thus, parents are directly contributing to the achievement of the educational system.
As a parent, being a part of a "village" allows you to assist in building and organizing a network for your children to interact with and show support in the process of attaining quality education for them.
