THE CASE OF BRINGING BACK THE SCHOOL YEAR TO JUNE
MICHAEL MACAPAGAL DELA CRUZ
In recent years, discussions about educational reform have often centered around extending the school year, pushing it further into the summer months. However, amidst these conversations, there is growing sentiment advocating for a return to the traditional calendar, with the academic year concluding in June. While extending the school year may seem beneficial at first glance, there are compelling reasons to reconsider this approach and embrace the advantages of ending the school year in June. Extending the school year can lead to an increase in stress and burnout among students and teachers. By bringing the school year back to June, we will allow for a more balanced academic schedule, providing students the opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate during the summer break. The summer months offer invaluable opportunities for families to bond and engage in meaningful activities together. It will ensures that families have ample time to travel, explore nature, and participate in community events without the constraints of academic commitments. These experiences not only strengthen family bonds but also contribute to the holistic development of children outside the academic setting. In conclusion, bringing back the school year to June offers numerous benefits that extend beyond the confines of the classroom. It promotes balance, strengthens family ties and many more. Embracing the tradition of ending the school year in June ensures that education remains a fulfilling and enriching experience for all.
