FUTURE LANDSCAPE OF EDUCATION

LOVELY JOYCE A. CASEJA

-

With the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic, education took a turn, especially in the delivery of instruction. From highly social interactions to the utilization of online platforms, modular learning, and limited face-to-face classes. Communication has never been this challenging. Motivating parents to take a more active part in their children’s education; engaging pupils to make them responsible for their own learning and monitoring their actual involvement in the aforementioned activities are some of the concerns that this health emergency has brought.

With that being said, the Department is doing its best to keep up with the changing educational landscape. From offering various modalities of delivering instructions; provision of self-learning kits and modules; performance of task-based activities to self-paced, authentic, and non-traditional assessment; education in the new normal has been continued. The traditional way of teaching sent waves to ICT illiterate teachers that forced some of them to retire or separate from service. Imagine, your pupils are the ones teaching you how to navigate google for example.

We were able to harvest the Most essential Learning Competencies that clogged the curriculum. Teachers were able to upskill themselves. We have never put a premium on health like what we are doing now. We have reverted to doing physical activities to keep our bodies fit to fight diseases. We have armored ourselves with mental health webinar series to smoothly transition to the new and now normal. We just need to keep moving and keep our best foot forward in the years to come.
